Poker Blog - NH GG FU

God i love poker, specifically cash games. I was crushing €2/€4 and €3/€6 at xmas (I think I made >€10k in a week at xmas), but a bad run on €5/€10 one night put me off cash for too long (I ran 1k up to 10k, then donked the lot off in 10 mins with underset v overset, boat V quads and another few coolers), and I focussed on tournament play for most of jan and the 1st week of Feb (Obv I owned the tourneys and made a few K in Jan) but tourneys are a bit boring sometimes, and most of the time you end up getting flushed or coolered in some way near the post, which can take the joy out of the game until you hit a good rush of scores consecutively.

anyway I played cash last night after being at the casino for some ez £30-£50sngs (and beer!) and scooped in some decent pots, and made another 4k odd today. weeeee…

Some hands:
Aces V Queens - €944.40 Pot
A Nice bluff which I showed -€373.00 pot obviously followed by a subsequent tightening my range for a while to get paid by their inevitable marginal hands.
Set of Aces - standard -€643.00 pot
Set to boat for €925
Donk pays my AK off - €854.20 - I presume he had AQ? Presuming he is folding KK, altho given his call he is obv terrible either way.
AK again on a horribly drawy board - €793.00 pot
$25/$50 Pocket fives for $2354.00 pot. - My buddy chris was telling me on IM that he needed some entertainment, and wanted me to play some 2/4, so obv i had to go one better and play $25/$50. God knows what I was playing 25/50 for it’s probably above the levels I should be playing at my current state of bankroll, and I need to be sure I can dominate 5/10 first, (but I had a good day.. so rules of BR management out the window for a moment) so I decided to give it a crack for a few hands.. I made a K and left before the donks or bad-beatage went to town on my roll.

played 2 mtts, bubbled both final tables because I went for the win. Broke even and didn’t play anymore poker as I got up at 11:30pm..

busto hands:

Game 1 Busto in 11/280 - This guy is chipleader and had nicked my blinds x2, so i knew his range was wide and i could probably push him off a weak ace (if he has any brains.) How wrong I was. He SNAPCALLS. nice kicker moron.

Game 2 Busto 20E rebuy - 11th - Mega fat pot, I run bad, but who cares in the grand scheme of things. I guess that’s why they call a8 the dead man’s hand.

my roll is so fat right now I am not worried about getting any volume of tourneys in (cash is king obv..) , however I am planning a little mtt team sidebet for next month so I know I’ll play a lot of mtts in march, even tho I am off to ireland for a week long pissup / the Irish poker open.

I Slept till 8pm (Remember - poker players that don’t have partners have no lives…), then after some snooker (I was rubbish!) and beers (2, anymore is -EV), I played some poker.. Managed to Final Table of 1 mtt and bubbled the FT of another.

Meanwhile I played a few cash tables and made nearly 2k in about 4 hours. My cash game is in good shape mostly due getting loads of hands in, and watching a load of poker training videos. I have learned a lot from watching high-stakes cash table videos, and now I find that I can actually hold my own with, and outplay people who used to own me completely in previous months, often spectacularly calling their hands before they show. I have come to believe that reads are as important as position and cards if not more important..

Anyway, Some Hand histories from today:

Pocket 5’s gets paid off, all the way! - €469.50 - Mega donkey play by my opponent. I suspect he had ace high.
I win a small fortune with no showdown. Weee - €724.50
Matey takes a coinflip for $1k, and loses (he did get some of it back later when he rivered a str8 vs my QQ overpair, so his pillow might not be as completely sodden as it might have been)

after a wee run like this I sometimes wonder why I play Tournaments. Of course, getting Rakeback of over 2k a month is peachy too.

more poker 2mor - maybe I’ll take another shot at the big games on Stars. Fricking 5:43am here. What the Fck am I doing with my life.

OK so my week was horrid - I was losing every race, losing my 90% hands and always getting KO’d on the Final Table bubble or worse. I managed to get outdrawn x4 on one Final table, and was convinced someone had doomswitched me.

I started this playing tight as hell, deciding to play it tight and just shove AK/AQ or jj+ if playing AIPF. Obv I will play connectors in position and see some flops as there is plenty of people in this field that will shove any draw and pay you off with top-pair.

At this stage I was ready to move some chips and take some small edge gambles. I doubled nicely in this hand - I was sure I was racing and the aggressor was raising a lot of pots. Anyway I set up on river and its all good.

After about 40 minutes of folding, I get dealt pocket deuces. Praying for my 1 in 8 shot, I limped on in there.. I hit my set, and get it all in against an overset. But wait, what’s that - Another Deuce. QUAD ME UP LANDLORD! Now I am Chipleader. 1 Time! Because I am now in mega luckbox Quad me up mode, I limp JJ fully expecting to hit a set - of course I do and I take down a 50bb pot. A Set of 7’s Turned boat gives me another 161k Chips.. I look unstoppable… Until down to 4, I get it in good with a dominating AQ, and get bad beat as…. Normal. Out 4th for €2k Euros.

2 Final tables in a row can’t be bad though.. Let’s see if i can make it 3.
