I have encountered a few sites where one can pay a sub (monthly) and query a database with a player name from a particular poker room, and see their stats, games played, average winning pot size and more..
Cool I thought- someone has multiple clients recording the rooms and whacking the data into a Database - (no doubt using multiple IP addresses, and limiting the amount of rooms they are data-mining). Easy money.
I discussed this with a poker player I know, and by the end of the conversation my mind turned from Kerching Kerching mode (I am an IT man, and webdev /databases is not rocketscience - So I figured on doing the same thing for a bit of extra money) to I can see how you would feel violated mode.
I queried the guy’s stats on one of the sites and thought to myself this is too much…. like checking someone’s bank statements..
Obviously nothing is done on these sites that you can’t do with pokertracker or PO.. Selling the lists or giving access to them is shady..
Thoughts ?
Makes me not want to tell people my username.. I like my privacy.. how about YOU?
